How to reach Twitch Affiliate: requirements and a realistic plan

Twitch Affiliate unlocks subscriptions, Bits and ads, the first real way to earn from streaming. The requirements are modest, but most new streamers get stuck on one of them: the average of three viewers. Here is what Twitch actually asks for and a plan that gets you there.

The four requirements

Twitch invites you to the Affiliate program automatically once you meet all of these within the last 30 days:

  • 50 followers in total.
  • 500 minutes of broadcasting, a little over 8 hours.
  • 7 unique broadcast days, so short streams on different days count more than one long session.
  • An average of 3 or more concurrent viewers across your streams.

You can follow your progress in the Creator Dashboard under Achievements. When you are eligible, Twitch shows an invitation there; accepting it means agreeing to the Affiliate terms and setting up tax and payout details.

Why the viewer average is the hard part

Followers and broadcast time come with consistency. The viewer average depends on people choosing to watch you while you are live, and new channels start at the bottom of every directory. Twitch only counts real viewers, and artificial followers or viewers break its rules and can cost you the invitation, so the work is in getting people to find you and stay.

A 30-day plan

Week 1: pick a schedule you can keep

Choose three or four fixed days and a start time, put them in your Twitch schedule and stick to them. Two-hour streams on four days already cover the broadcast time and the unique days. Regular viewers come back when they know when you are live.

Week 2: choose categories where you can be seen

In the biggest categories you sit below thousands of channels. Look for games or categories where the top streams have tens or a few hundred viewers, not tens of thousands. Being on the first screen of a smaller category is worth more than being invisible in a large one.

Week 3: talk, even to an empty chat

Viewers who open your stream decide within seconds whether to stay. Describe what you are doing, react to the game and greet everybody by name. A stream that feels alive turns visitors into followers.

Week 4: bring people in from outside Twitch

Cut short clips of your best moments and post them on TikTok, YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels with a note about when you stream. Join a few communities around your game, take part without spamming, and raid or host streamers of your size so they return the favour.

Small things that make a difference

  • Write titles that say what is happening right now, not just the game name.
  • Use tags that match your language and what makes your stream different.
  • Keep your audio clean: viewers forgive average video, not bad sound.
  • End every stream by raiding another channel; it builds friendships with other creators.

After Affiliate

Partner has higher, more personal requirements: steady growth, an average of about 75 viewers and a community Twitch wants to support. The habits from this plan, a fixed schedule, clips and real interaction, are the same ones that get you there.
