Kick vs Twitch for new streamers: which platform fits you?

Kick has grown quickly by offering streamers a better revenue split, while Twitch remains the biggest home for live gaming. Which one is better for a new channel depends less on the headlines and more on how you plan to grow.

Revenue share

Kick advertises a 95/5 split on subscriptions, so almost all of a subscription goes to the streamer. On Twitch the standard split is 50/50, with better rates through programs such as Plus for channels with a steady base of subscribers. For a small channel the difference is real but small in euros: the split matters once you have subscribers, and getting them is the first problem on either platform.

Discoverability

Both platforms sort live channels by viewer count, so new streamers start at the bottom. Twitch has far more channels competing in every category; Kick has fewer streamers per category, which can make it easier to appear on the first screen. On the other hand, Twitch has more viewers looking for something to watch at any moment.

Audience

Twitch's audience is larger and broader, with strong communities in gaming, Just Chatting, music and creative content. Kick's audience is smaller and leans towards gaming, Just Chatting and gambling-adjacent content, which shapes what viewers expect when they browse.

Rules and reliability

Twitch has long-established community guidelines, moderation tools and a mature mobile app. Kick's rules are looser in some areas and its tools are still catching up. If you plan to work with brands, check which platform your sponsors are comfortable with.

Monetisation beyond subscriptions

Twitch Affiliate adds Bits and ads from 50 followers and an average of 3 viewers. Kick has its own creator incentive program with different requirements that it updates from time to time. Look up the current terms on each platform before you decide, because both change regularly.

What we would do as a new streamer

  • Already have an audience elsewhere (TikTok, YouTube, a community): Kick's split and less crowded categories make your existing viewers count more.
  • Starting from zero in a popular game: try both for two weeks with the same schedule and compare where people stay and chat.
  • Content that needs strict brand safety: Twitch is the safer choice today.

You do not have to pick forever. Many streamers keep one main platform and test the other with the same content. What matters most on either one is a fixed schedule, a category where you can be seen and a chat that feels alive.
